Indigenous Knowledge
Indigenous Knowledge (IK) is “the evolving knowledge acquired by Indigenous and local peoples over hundreds or thousands of years through direct contact with the environment” (US Fish & Wildlife Service). IK is crucial to protecting ecosystems, such as the Lake Winnebago watershed, because people such as Brothertown have had a relationship with this ecosystem for hundreds of years.
